Who We Are
We are a group of supporters trying to maintain the tradition of annually riding round the boundary of the City and County of Lichfield.
We are a sub committee of the Lichfield Shrievalty Association with the purpose of:
Promoting, fundraising and otherwise supporting the Sheriff’s Ride (the perambulation of the boundary of the old City and County of Lichfield in accordance with the 1553 Charter) as an equestrian event and thereby the promoting and supporting the office of the Sheriff of Lichfield and its associated traditions.
Constitution of the Lichfield Shrievalty Association Sheriff’s Ride Committee
1. The committee to consist of a minimum of three members of the Shrievalty Association and to include the Chair of The Lichfield Shrievalty Association
2. The committee to elect a Chair from one of the appointed members who are members of the Lichfield Shrievalty Association
3. The committee to have the power to co-opt members who are not members of the Lichfield Shrievalty Association as ‘supporting members’ and to allocate them roles and responsibilities which lie within its remit.
4. The committee to elect Secretary and any other officers it should feel necessary from its members or supporting members
5. The committee to arrange and schedule its meetings as necessary.
6. The committee to make decisions by simple majority of the Lichfield Shrievalty Association members within that committee with the Chair of the committe having a casting vote.
7. The committee to have the authority to communicate in matters relating to the promoting, funding, management, organisation and format of the Sheriff’s Ride with:
a. Lichfield City Council, its Councilors, the Town Clerk and officers.
b. Landowners of the ground over which the Sheriff’s Ride has or may take place.
c. Any other person, body or organisation who may, in the opinion of the committee, have (or have had) an interest in the Sheriff’s Ride or may be in a position to advise on or support its future.
8. The committee may therefore invite non-members of the committee to attend meetings as non-member supporters.
9. The Lichfield Shrievalty Association will ring fence any funds raised by that committee for the purpose of supporting the Sheriff’s Ride.
10. The Lichfield Shrievalty Association empowers the committee to apply for funding for the purpose of supporting the Sheriff’s Ride.
11. The treasurer will make payments to persons, bodies and organisations as authorised by the committee from those funds ringfenced for the Sheriff’s Ride.
12. The secretary of the committee shall provide minutes to the secretary of the Lichfield Shrievalty Association
13. The Lichfield Shrievalty Association may, by means of a majority vote in a quorate regular meeting or in a quorate extraordinary meeting, disband the committee. However, any funds raised and held by the Shrievalty Association for the purpose of supporting the Sheriff’s Ride would remain ringfenced and may not be used for any other purpose.
